Fishing, Frogs And Five

Chan has found a new hobby and he's obsessed!  Fishing!  It's all he ever wants to do in his free time now.  That and baseball.  He takes any opportunity to steal daddy away and go fishing while the girls do other things.

Chan also recently caught a tadpole in the stream and brought it home to watch it transform into a frog.  The whole process took a week and he was so sad to let the little guy go in the wild.  We were just worried we were raising a coqui frog!

Biggest news of all - the twins turned 5 last month!  Wow!  We had a nice weekend with family and friends and they were so excited for their special day.  They loved getting new clothes, games, legos, and sparkly, glittery girly things.

We've also been spending a lot of time in the water!  Mostly the pool though which has helped the twins learn how to swim without puddle jumpers anymore.  Woohoo!  But they still love playing in the sand at the beach :)

All Sorts Of News

Did I mention that we got a cat?  Shocking, I know.  Meet Toby - our first real pet.  We got 2 goldfish a few years ago and they're still alive so we decided to step it up a bit.  Nana found him for us and he's a great addition to the family.  He's still young and a little bit rascal but the kids LOVE him so much.  He loves to sleep in the most random places.

We're always trying to find new and fun things to do during COVID life.  Liliuokalani Gardens is always a fave for our fam as the kids always find fun things to do there.

Sometimes the kids do yoga together.  And then sometimes they just pile up on top of each other.

Oh and Evie finally decided she wanted to get earrings!  Poppy asked to get hers after the holidays. We went down to the mall, got them, and that was it.  Eve asked to go the next day and wouldn't take her hands off her ears cause she was scared so we didn't push it.  Then all of a sudden she asked again and did it this time!

This was as wacky as I could get the girls to be on "wacky Wednesday" during Dr Seuss week at school.

But normally, they're pretty goofy together :)

Chan joined a new baseball team!!!  We had to switch teams because of COVID and Chan's so happy to be back on the field!

More cuteness :)

And great news!  The kids are partially back to school in person!  They just started going twice a week for half days.  It's a start!  And they're loving it!  Chan was super excited for writing and worksheets!

These girls :)

Chan: "3/17/21.  I'll never forget this day."  Chan got his very own library card.  He had so sign his name in order to do so and he did it!

A different set of twins ;)

Esme Turns 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And just like that our oldest, our big girl, our little Esme-bean turned 10 today!  Wow how time flies!  She was super excited for this birthday and she says it was the best one yet :)  She requested a tea time and petting zoo birthday without the little siblings so she had one party in the day and then in the evening we had a little family dinner with the grandparents so everyone else could celebrate.  Phew, so much sugar!  But no one was complaining, ha ha!

Good morning to our 10 year old!

Yum cake!

Tea time at the Lili House Farm

Our weather was mostly perfect.  There were a few sprinkles that came inbetween petting zoo time and tea and then cake so it worked out well.

Our goofy birthday girl at dinner.

The twins always love a birthday party

Esme's birthday always gets a little intertwined with Valentine's Day.  Or there's just a lot of sugar floating around over the course of the few days, ha ha!  The kids woke up and got to paint their own frosted sugar cookies and eat conversation hearts which they totally enjoyed.

Happy 2021!

We survived the holidays!  They were quiet and some traditions were changed but funny thing is, we were still just as busy it seemed.  Ha ha!

The kids wrote letters to Santa and mailed them at the Yacht Club.  They even got a handwritten letter back and they were in shock!  Best surprise ever!

We did a lot more holiday baking this year and I had plenty of helpers every step of the way :)

Poppy and Eve took over the ladder when daddy was trying to put up the outside lights.

Decorating gingerbread houses and men

Looks like Esme is doing more than decorating ;)

Poppy's ready to dig in too :)

Here's Doodle, our scout elf, that the kids love to hunt for every morning.

Twins!

Checking out the glow at Halemaumau Crater which is a lava lake again.  We also got to the Christmas Star and so many other constellations this night

Chan loves this decoration at the KMC cabins

We also woke up early and caught sunrise in the National Park and saw the lava lake glow again

Holiday themed face masks.  Thanks Nana!

Check out this Santa letter that Chan wrote.  Note that he started off by checking "Naughty" and then changed his mind.  Ha ha!

Santa designed a custom Lego table for all the kids to play at and they love it!

We've been doing a lot of swimming and playing on the west side of the island lately.

More new years and other pics to come soon!

Happy Holidays 2020

So here we are at the end of another year, and what a year it was.  With COVID stay-at-home orders, quarantines, online learning and all our cancelled activities, it would seem like the year would drag on but somehow it flew by faster than the rest!  Strange how that happens.  In the end, we have so much to be thankful for though :)  We've stayed healthy, employed, and (mostly ;) happy despite all the changes.

Our small island is currently faring well as far as COVID goes with a decrease in cases but with tourism open now it's possible we're headed for another spike after the holidays just like the rest of the country.  We'll just have to wait and see.  The big kids are doing 100% online learning and attending a COVID safe enrichment program at Imiloa Astronomy Center during the weekday.  This helps to give them some social interaction which makes a huge difference.  The twins are in their last year of preschool at Keikiland and doing well there too.  We're very thankful for childcare since Allen and I have continued to work throughout the pandemic.  This past summer Allen left the pharmacy school and is now the Pharmacy Director at Hilo Medical Center.  And I'm still working in a pediatric primary care office close to home.

And here's the latest and greatest on the kids...

Esme: She's 9 1/2 and growing up so quickly!  She's the typical oldest child - responsible, bossy, helpful, and conscientious.  She misses school and her friends a lot.  She's devoured tons of books over the past year and we're always looking for new recommendations.  Recently she went back to playing soccer and tennis.  She's also taking piano lessons and continues with Kumon for her favorite subject - math.  For Christmas Esme has a long wish list that includes Airpods, slime, toys, legos, scrunchies and other stuff I can't remember right now.

Chan: Chan is 7 1/2 now and definitely our middle child.  Sometimes it even seems exaggerated cause he's surrounded by girls.  He gets bossed around from every angle!  Chan always has a lot to say (he never stops talking) and definitely needs/wants a lot of validation.  He's very busy and active which is great.  The twins are like his little minions and follow him everywhere.  He's into basketball and baseball.  He also loves to read.  Graphic novels are definitely a draw but he reads whatever he can get his hands on, even Esme's books.  Chan also continues with Kumon for math.  For Christmas Chan wants a black water bottle, a robot to clean his room, a hoverboard and a toy stick horse to ride on (so random!).

Poppy: Now 4 1/2 she's quite the fashionista at her young little age.  She's attracted to anything with sparkles or that shines and that pretty much sums up her Christmas list.  She's also very bossy and independent, most of the time.  She's definitely "twin A" and she lets Eve know it.  She's 9 minutes older!  They (mostly) love having a playmate around all the time and still don't mind sharing clothes.  I wonder when that will change.  Her big accomplishments for the year were getting her ears pierced and learning to ride her bike without training wheels.

Eve: Also 4 1/2 (plus 9 more minutes) and is a goofy little girl.  Eve is very particular about how she does things and smart in her own way.  She loves to cuddle and read books.  She's definitely the baby of the family.  Her Christmas list includes a soccer ball and a Barbie (even though we already have tons of hand me downs and a dollhouse for them).  Her curls remain but they're definitely starting to grow out.  Finally this year she started to sprout up and is a few inches taller than Poppy.  Prior to this they've always remained within an inch and a pound of each other.

Happy COVID Christmas

We opted for a smaller tree this year but with the kids getting bigger it looks even smaller in this pic!

Thanksgiving weekend in Hawaii, at the beach where we got married 11 years ago :)
