Allen and I felt like getting away this year and Esme was game for another adventure so we took off for a 4 day weekend of island hopping in the San Juans. We couldn't have asked for better weather either as every day greeted us with beautiful sunrises and sunsets and lots of cool breezes. We've only ever stayed on San Juan Island when we've visited so this time we decided to check out Orcas Island. Due to the limited weekend ferry service we had ALL day there so we covered just about the whole island. We even had enough time to allow Esme to nap out under the trees at the park instead of being stuck in the car. Back on San Juan Island we attempted to catch a glimpse of the whales that were circling the island but we kept missing them. The holiday weekend brought many other visitors to the islands and lots of festivities that we could enjoy. Esme got to see her first parade, blind-folded dinghy races, and log rolling competitions. Unfortunately the fireworks were past her bedtime so she was fast asleep by the time they started. Luckily for us we could see them from the balcony of where we were staying to Allen and I could still enjoy them.
